A Young Leader Incubates & Launches the 5K in 5Points to Bring the Community Together // Video

May 29, 2012

“I saw the potential within myself. I thought maybe I could kick off this event and enable and inspire other youth to come to YouthBiz and start other events like this in the neighborhood,” explains Daisy Rocha, YouthBiz Youth Fundraising & Marketing Intern.

Two years ago, a fifteen-year-old Daisy Rocha hatched the idea to start a 5K Run/Walk in Northeast Denver as a way to bring the community together, promote healthy living, and celebrate the assets of the neighborhood.  The 5K in 5Points was born.  On May 19, 2012, runners and walkers braved a cold and rainy day to run in support of the entrepreneurial youth development programs of YouthBiz and the local Five Points Rotary Club.

“I am really excited to see where this event goes, because it is a neighborhood event. I really am hoping as we look forward to next year, more and more community organizations located in the neighborhood take ownership and it becomes more of a shared event,” explains Brandy Bertram, YouthBiz Executive Director.

Daisy’s vision and work to launch the 5K in 5Points is a dynamic expression of the value of a young person stepping up as a leader in their community, identifying an opportunity to create positive change and bringing a community together to support growth and development.  Support a Young Entrepreneur Today >>
